An automatic die-cutting and creasing machine cuts printed board sheets with a steel-rule die, adds creases where the carton will be folded and strips away waste to produce ready carton blanks. Modern fully automatic machines process 5,000–8,500 sheets per hour with registration accuracy better than ±0.1 mm. In this guide we compare the Wenhong WH series die-cutting, hot foil stamping and laminating machines of Oyang Group, for which we are the official distributor, using the manufacturer's 2026 data.
What does a die-cutting machine do?
Folding cartons, labels, paper bag blanks and corrugated packaging are shaped on a die-cutting machine after printing. Four basic operations are performed on each sheet:
- Die-cutting: The steel-rule die separates the carton blank from the sheet.
- Creasing: Crease lines are made where the carton will fold, so the board folds cleanly without cracking.
- Stripping: Waste pieces between the blanks are removed automatically inside the machine.
- Blanking: On advanced models the cut cartons are separated and stacked individually.
Typical applications highlighted by the manufacturer: cigarette and wine boxes, beer and beverage cartons, cosmetics boxes for creams, lipsticks and eyeshadows, and pharmaceutical cartons.

For jobs that need deep embossing, such as luxury wine packaging, quality handbags and cosmetics boxes, the WH-1050SSR / 1180SSR hot-press models with 600 t cutting pressure are the right choice; they can also cut, notch and emboss plastic materials. For large cartons and corrugated packaging, the wide-format WH-1500SS, WH-1600SS and WH-1650SS cut board of 300 g/m² and above and A, B, C, E and F flute corrugated board at 5,000 sheets per hour with ±0.3 mm registration accuracy.
Hot foil stamping and die-cutting in one machine
Doing metallic foil stamping and die-cutting on the same machine shortens the workflow and eliminates registration drift between the two processes. Wenhong's SF series combines an electrically heated foil unit with die-cutting:
| Specification | WH-1050SF | WH-1180SF |
|---|---|---|
| Max. sheet | 1050 × 750 mm | 1180 × 900 mm |
| Max. cutting and foiling size | 1040 × 730 mm | 1150 × 885 mm |
| Materials | 90–2000 g/m² board, 0.1–2 mm, corrugated ≤ 4 mm | 90–2000 g/m² board, 0.1–2 mm, corrugated ≤ 4 mm |
| Max. speed | 7,500 sheets/h | 6,800 sheets/h |
| Heating | 12 independent zones, max. 200 °C | 16 independent zones, max. 200 °C |
| Pressure · power | 400 t · 55 kW | 400 t · 55 kW |
| Weight · size | 18 t · 5.82 × 4.39 × 2.33 m | 20 t · 6.48 × 4.54 × 2.39 m |
Registration accuracy ≤ ±0.075 mm. A 600 t foil stamping version is optional for embossing.
For larger sheets, the WH-1300SF and WH-1500SF (up to 1500 × 1100 mm on the 1500SF) run at 6,000 sheets per hour with 20 independent heating zones. The dual-station WH-2105 / 2118 FSS performs foil stamping and die-cutting in one pass on two consecutive stations (7,000 / 6,800 sheets per hour); each shaft in the foil section is driven by an independent servo motor, and foil advance or jump feeding can be programmed separately.

Automatic laminating: WHL-1514 and WHL-1716
For corrugated boxes, the printed top sheet (coated paper or board) is glued to the corrugated board on a laminating machine. Wenhong's laminators with an automatic flip-flop stacker set themselves up once the sheet size is entered, maintain alignment through front-lay tracking and servo compensation, and reach 13,000 sheets per hour by calculating the gap between sheets when switching between large and small formats.
| Specification | WHL-1514 | WHL-1716 |
|---|---|---|
| Max. sheet | 1500 × 1400 mm | 1716 × 1600 mm |
| Min. sheet | 390 × 360 mm | 390 × 360 mm |
| Bottom sheet | ≥ 300 g/m² white board; G/F/E/A/B flute, 3/5-ply corrugated | ≥ 300 g/m² white board; G/F/E/A/B flute, 3/5-ply corrugated |
| Top (print) sheet | 150–800 g | 150–800 g |
| Max. speed | 13,000 sheets/h | 13,000 sheets/h |
| Power · weight | 28.5 kW · 9 t | 28.5 kW · 10 t |
| Size | 14.0 × 2.6 × 2.9 m | 14.0 × 2.8 × 2.9 m |
The automatic flip-flop stacker adds 8.5 kW; the laminating waste water recycling system is patented by the manufacturer.

6 criteria to choose the right die-cutting machine
- Sheet size: The sheet of your largest job must fit the machine's maximum size; choose between the 1050, 1180, 1300 and 1500+ formats.
- Materials: Board weight and thickness (0.1–2 mm), corrugated flute type (F, E, B, C, A) and thickness.
- Speed and changeover frequency: For long runs, hourly speed matters most; for many short jobs, die changeover time (one-click setting, quick lock, preparation chase) is decisive.
- Foil stamping needs: If metallic foil is used often, the SF series or the dual-station FSS saves floor space and labour compared with two separate machines.
- Stripping and blanking: Automatic waste stripping and blank separation reduce manual cleaning at the end of the line.
- Accuracy, power and space: Registration accuracy (±0.075 mm), power requirement (20–100 kW) and machine length (about 5.8–11.3 m) determine the installation plan.

Frequently asked questions
In the Wenhong WH series, the 1050-format Procut and Supercut models cut 8,500 sheets per hour and the Easycut 7,500. Speed decreases as the sheet gets larger: the WH-1180SS runs at 6,800, the WH-1300SS at 6,000 and the wide-format WH-1500/1600/1650SS at 5,000 sheets per hour.
Creasing is the line pressed into the board with a blunt rule where the carton will fold. The board folds cleanly along this line without cracking; the die-cutting machine performs cutting and creasing in the same impression.
The stripping unit automatically removes the waste pieces left between carton blanks inside the machine. Sheets go on to gluing and folding without manual cleaning at the end of the line, which reduces labour.
Yes. The WH-1050SS cuts corrugated board up to 4 mm; the WH-1180SS and WH-1300SS handle colour-laminated F, E, B and C flute corrugated board 2–4 mm thick. The wide-format WH-1500/1600/1650SS cut corrugated board including A flute.
Yes. The Wenhong SF series (WH-1050SF, 1180SF, 1300SF, 1500SF) performs hot foil stamping and die-cutting on the same machine; the dual-station WH-2105/2118 FSS completes both operations in one pass on consecutive stations. This removes registration drift and intermediate stock between two separate machines.
Registration accuracy shows how precisely the cutting and creasing lines match the print. It is ±0.075 mm on the Wenhong Procut and SF series; in luxury packaging, perfect alignment of foil, embossing and cutting with the print depends on this value.
