Used MAN Roland 806 sheetfed offset press with coating unit, feeder and printing units

A MAN Roland offset printing press is a sheetfed offset press built in Offenbach, Germany; the most sought-after model on the used market is the ROLAND 700 in the 74 × 104 cm format. According to the manufacturer's 2005 data sheet, the ROLAND 700 prints up to 16,000 sheets per hour in single-sided mode and handles paper and board from 0.04 to 1.0 mm thick. In this guide we cover the series, the model codes, pre-purchase checks and the service and spare parts situation that changed in 2026, based on manufacturer sources; the examples come from machines in our catalogue.

What is MAN Roland and why is it so common on the used market?

The brand goes back to Faber & Schleicher, founded in Offenbach in 1871 by Louis Faber and Adolf Schleicher. In 1911 the company built the world's first sheetfed rotary offset press under the name "Roland". In 1979 it merged with the printing press division of MAN in Augsburg and became MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG; this is still the name on the nameplates of used machines today.

The PECOM control console technology, introduced in 1990, arrived together with a new automation concept for the medium-format ROLAND 700. After the insolvency of November 2011, the sheetfed division was taken over by the British Langley Holdings in February 2012 and continued as manroland sheetfed. In other words, "MAN Roland" and "manroland" are names of the same press family from different periods.

Used intensively for many years by commercial printers, folding carton and pharmaceutical box producers, these presses form a large pool of options on the used market thanks to their robust frames. A well-maintained ROLAND can keep producing for a long time with its second owner, so when buying, the machine's history matters more than the model.

MAN Roland series: which model for which job?

The series number indicates the format class: the 500 series is the 50 × 70 cm class, the 700 series the 70 × 100 cm class, and the 800 and 900 series are large format. The values below come from the manufacturer's published data sheets and product pages.

ROLAND 700: the heart of the used market

The ROLAND 700 accounts for most searches for used MAN Roland presses. The manufacturer's data sheet emphasises that its double-diameter impression cylinders and transfer drums make it suitable for all stocks between 0.04 and 1.0 mm. This makes the 700 attractive for packaging printers that want to run everything from thin paper to heavy board on the same press.

Key equipment highlighted in the 2005 data sheet:

  • Automatic plate changing: PPL (fully automatic APL as an option).
  • Ink control: RCI inking control system and PECOM ColorPilot control console.
  • Coating module: Chambered doctor blade system and QuickChangeCoating set.
  • Automatic washing: Program-controlled roller and blanket wash-up, optional impression cylinder wash-up.
  • Automatic printing pressure adjustment and format settings.
  • AirGlide delivery and a non-stop delivery option with InlineSorter.

Worked example: for a folding carton job with 6 boxes per sheet, at the ROLAND 700's maximum speed of 16,000 sheets/h and assuming 60% efficiency for make-ready and stops, an 8-hour shift produces 16,000 × 8 × 0.60 = 76,800 sheets, or about 460,800 boxes. Run this calculation with your own imposition and run lengths to choose the series and number of units.

Large format: ROLAND 900 and 800 series

Packaging, book and poster printers who want more items per sheet move to the large-format series. According to the manufacturer, the current ROLAND 900 Evolution works with a maximum sheet of 1,060 × 1,450 mm, a maximum print area of 1,045 × 1,440 mm and a minimum sheet of 600 × 850 mm; it runs at 14,000 or 16,500 sheets/h and handles stocks from 0.04 to 1.2 mm.

The older-generation large-format presses more commonly found on the used market are in the 102 × 142 cm class. Our catalogue includes the 905-6+LV HiPrint (2008, 366 million impressions), the 806+L (1993, 5 colours + coating) and the R 804 (1988, 4 colours) from this class. For large-format presses, transport, foundation preparation and installation costs rise significantly compared with the 700 series; add these to your budget.

How do you read a MAN Roland model code? (R 705 LV, 706 3B)

The model code gives the series, the number of printing units and the additional equipment in a single line. These are the abbreviations commonly used in the industry:

Confirm the exact configuration with the nameplate and the seller's technical list; the same code may have been built with different options.

Check three items on the nameplate: Typ (model), Nr. (serial number) and Baujahr (year of manufacture). The nameplate of the press in our catalogue reads "R 706 3B", serial number "30796 B" and year 2003. The year in the listing should match the year on the nameplate.

How do you read the impression counter and operating hours?

The first figure to ask for on a used offset press is the total impression count on the console screen. On German screens, Totalbogen shows the total number of sheets printed and Betriebsstunden shows the press's operating hours. The screen below belongs to the 2003 R 706 3B in our catalogue: 288,160,320 sheets and 100,849 hours 40 minutes.

MAN Roland console screen showing the Totalbogen impression counter and Betriebsstunden operating hours
Totalbogen (total sheets) and Betriebsstunden (operating hours) are read together.

The impression count alone does not decide a purchase. Of two presses with the same count, the one that has been regularly maintained will last much longer than a neglected one. Ask for a video of the counter rather than a photo, compare it with maintenance and service records, and see the value on the screen yourself during a live print test.

8 checks when buying a used MAN Roland

  1. Nameplate and documents: Do the type, serial number and year match the listing? Are the CE marking, electrical diagrams and manuals included in the delivery?
  2. Impression counter and operating hours: Evaluate Totalbogen and Betriebsstunden on video and together with service records.
  3. Cylinders: Impression, blanket and plate cylinder surfaces should show no scratches, corrosion or impact marks; excessive play in cylinder bearings and gears makes noise.
  4. Grippers and sheet transfer: Gripper bars and transfer drums are the most frequent cause of register errors; ask for a register test at full speed.
  5. Inking and dampening units: Condition of the rollers and correct operation of the automatic roller and blanket wash-up systems.
  6. Control console and electronics: The PECOM, RCI or CCI console, screens, boards and automatic plate changing should work without faults.
  7. Coating, drying and peripherals: Are the coating unit, IR or hot-air drying, cooling cabinets, compressor and powder sprayer included and working?
  8. Live print test: Print your own job on your own paper or board at full speed; measure colour, register and delivery pile quality.

If the press is abroad, the dismantling, packing and transport plan is also part of the check: the contract should state in writing which equipment (dryer, compressor, cooling cabinet, spare parts boxes) comes with the press.

MAN Roland service and spare parts situation in 2026

manroland sheetfed entered protective shield (Schutzschirmverfahren) insolvency proceedings in March 2026; according to the trade press, the company announced that new press production in Offenbach would end at the end of May 2026. On 24 June 2026, Langley Holdings and HEIDELBERG announced an agreement to transfer manroland sheetfed's global service and spare parts business to HEIDELBERG: around 35 country organisations, around 600 employees and the intellectual property of the ROLAND 900 / Cartonmaster large-format press. According to the announcement, completion of the transaction is subject to the usual approvals.

In its announcement, HEIDELBERG stated that it is taking over service and spare parts supply worldwide and that manroland customers' local contacts will generally remain in place. For a used-press buyer this means service and parts support for ROLAND presses continues; still, ask about parts availability for the press's electronic boards and control system before buying.

How is a used MAN Roland brought to Turkey?

In Turkey, imports of used machinery fall under the Communiqué on the Import of Used or Refurbished Goods, which is renewed every year; the one in force for 2026 is Communiqué No. Import: 2026/9 (Official Gazette, 31.12.2025). Application procedures and conditions vary by the machine's customs tariff (GTİP) number, so current conditions should be confirmed before importing.

  1. Press selection: Series, number of units, coating and drying needs; impression counter and test print.
  2. Dismantling, packing and transport: Planned together with transport insurance.
  3. Import and customs clearance: Permit application, customs procedures and, if required, an investment incentive certificate.
  4. Financing: Leasing or deferred letter of credit.
  5. Installation and commissioning: Foundation preparation, installation, test print and handover.

Özdemir Makine manages all of these steps from a single point: we offer leasing and deferred letter of credit options; handle import, investment incentive certificates, transport insurance and customs clearance; and deliver presses cleaned, serviced and installed by our own team and fitters.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the series and configuration. According to the manufacturer's 2005 data sheet, the ROLAND 700 prints 16,000 sheets/h single-sided and 12,000 sheets/h in perfecting mode. The current ROLAND 700 Evolution Elite runs at 18,000, the ROLAND 500 at 16,000 (18,000 as an option) and the ROLAND 900 Evolution at 14,000 or 16,500 sheets/h.

According to the 2005 data sheet, the ROLAND 700 has a maximum sheet size of 740 × 1,040 mm and a maximum print area of 715 × 1,020 mm, and it handles paper and board from 0.04 to 1.0 mm. On the current Evolution Elite, the 3B Plus format goes up to 780 × 1,050 mm.

R stands for Roland, 7 for the ROLAND 700 series and 05 for five printing (colour) units. L means a coating (varnish) unit and V means extended delivery (verlängerte Auslage). So an R 705 LV is a 5-colour ROLAND 700 with a coating unit and extended delivery.

Yes, it is the same press family. The company took the name MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG in 1979. After the 2011 insolvency, the sheetfed division was acquired by Langley Holdings in 2012 and continued as manroland sheetfed. Older presses carry MAN Roland on their nameplates.

Yes. manroland sheetfed decided to stop new press production in 2026, but on 24 June 2026 the transfer of its service and spare parts business to HEIDELBERG was announced, and HEIDELBERG stated that it continues parts and service support. Özdemir Makine's catalogue also includes ROLAND 700 spare parts boxes, and we provide technical service support.

It matters, but it is not enough on its own. View the Totalbogen (total sheets) and Betriebsstunden (operating hours) values on video, compare them with service records and run a live print test with your own job. A well-maintained press with a high count can be a better buy than a neglected one with a low count.

Özdemir Makine's catalogue lists used MAN Roland offset printing presses located in Turkey and Germany. With more than 30 years of experience, we provide press selection, customs clearance, installation, spare parts and technical service support from our offices in Istanbul and Krefeld (Germany).

The price depends on the series, year of manufacture, number of printing units, coating and drying equipment, impression count, overall condition and the country where the press is located. Contact Özdemir Makine for a current price and a quotation including transport, customs and installation.
